Summer jobs twice lured him to Arvida to work with the Aluminum Company of Canada. Taking the train there the first time via Montreal, the four students carried their steamer trunks from one train station to another, to save a little money. With some time to kill between trains, they stopped to gaze at the magnificent "huge" Sun Life Building which towered over the Montreal skyline at the time. A kind gentleman who could easily tell that they were visiting, was motivated to take them on a walking tour of his beloved city. When they boarded the Montreal-Arvida train for the last lap of their journey, they decided to sleep two to a berth, saving as much of their $35.00 monthly allowance for what awaited them. Arriving in Arvida the next morning and not knowing where they were going, they "bit the bullet" they loaded their trunks into a taxi. After giving the cab driver the address, imagine how shaken they were to find that their accommodation was next door to the train station.
